Elon Musk Wants Employees to Return to Office

Elon Musk has called Tesla employees to return to the office Tesla's CEO emailed employees this week saying that the employees are required to spend at least 40 hours a week in the company offices. 

Mr. Musk wrote that Tesla has and will create and actually manufacture the most exciting and meaningful products of any company on Earth, and this will not take place by phoning it in.

In a tweet, Musk suggested that employees who don't want to return to the office can look for employment elsewhere. "They should pretend to work somewhere else," he said.

Musk said senior staff in particular should be visible to employees. He quoted his pre-pandemic experience of sleeping on the floor of Tesla's San Francisco Bay Area factory when Tesla struggled to produce in 2018.

Amazon.com Inc. a mix of blue-and-white-collar workers said it was up to the directors of each team to decide how much time company employees spend in the office. General Motors advises employees who do jobs that don't need to be in the field to decide where to work most effectively with their boss. Ford Motor Co. takes a similar approach, giving offsite employees the flexibility to work.
