News Synopsis

The office buildings of Twitter will be temporarily closed, effective right away, the company has informed its staff. A news agency got a message informing twitter employees that the offices would reopen on November 21. It did not state why it was moving.

The statement comes as there are reports that several employees were leaving after the new owner, Elon Musk, told them to commit to "long hours at high intensity" or quit. A request for comment from the media agency did not receive a response right away from Twitter.

According to sources, Mr. Musk told Twitter employees last week that they would "need to be extremely hardcore" or commit to working long hours or leave the company.

The new owner of the business told employees to accept the pledge in an email if they wanted to stay, according to a news agency. Mr. Musk stated that those who didn't sign up by Thursday, November 17 would receive three months' worth of severance pay.

The company said earlier this month that it will be laying off almost 50% of its workers. The news that Twitter had temporarily closed its offices yesterday came with signs that several employees had already left in protest at Mr. Musk's new contractual terms.

To announce their departure from the company, employees have begun tweeting using the hashtag #LoveWhereYouWorked and a saluting emoji.

"I think when the dust clears today, there's probably going to be less than 2,000 people left." a former Twitter employee who decided to remain anonymous told a news agency. They also mentioned that their entire team had been terminated.

There is no longer anyone in that chain of command because the manager of that team, his manager, that manager's leader, and the executive above them all were terminated on the first day. On Friday, Mr. Musk tweeted:  "And... we just hit another all-time high in Twitter usage lol".
