News Synopsis

Business ties of World’s Richest Man and Chief Executive Officer of Tesla Motors- Elon Musk with China have raised concerns amongst the lawmakers in the United States. According to a report by the Wall Street Journal, some Republican lawmakers are worried that China could have access to classified information through the SpaceX foreign suppliers, which may have ties to China, even though SpaceX doesn’t have any direct links to its rival. Also, Tesla is under criticism for opening a retail outlet in China's controversial region Xinjiang, as the Chinese government has been accused of committing human rights violations in the region. Utah's Rep. Chris Stewart told the WSJ that despite being a fan of Musk and SpaceX, "anyone would be concerned if there are financial entanglements with China." Earlier in the month of January, Scott Paul, president of the Alliance of American Manufacturing industry body said: "Any company doing business in Xinjiang is complicit in the cultural genocide taking place there. But Tesla's actions are especially despicable." Half of Tesla’s deliveries come from a factory built in Shanghai, which Musk bought in the year 2019.
