Elon Musk puts Tesla plans on hold in India

Elon Musk-led Tesla

has put its plans on hold in India as it has been unable to receive a deal for lower tariffs. According to a Reuters report, the leading EV giant has put its plans to sell its electric cars in India on hold. The EV manufacturer has halted stopped looking for showrooms in the country and reassigned its domestic staff. 

The Chief Executive Officer of the EV maker, earlier this year, while responding to a question on Twitter regarding its Indian entry had said that the EV company is “facing a lot of challenges with the government.”

The popular EV giant has expressed its interest to foray in the Indian market. The company has even received approval for four models in August 2021 and three models in December 2021 in India.Tesla has been negotiating with the

Government of India

for quite some time now. The company had requested the government to reduce the import taxes on electric vehicles, which would allow it to import its cars into the country. Additionally, multiple reports indicate that Tesla has decided to make Indonesia its manufacturing hub after its request to decrease import tariffs was declined by the Indian government.
