News Synopsis

The electronics industry has been suffering from a shortage of chips for the past two years. This has affected many industries as they are running behind their production and thus not able to make timely deliveries to their customers. Two major industries which were affected the most are the smartphones and automobile industries. However, the recent report suggests that things are likely to get better in from the second quarter of this year. The availability of semiconductors for smartphones is expected to get better in a couple of months. On the other hand, semiconductors used in automobiles are likely to be supplied in optimum quantity by the end year. Rajen Vagadia, VP and President, Qualcomm India and SAARC, said “The pandemic showed us how important it is to remain connected in a hybrid environment, with the same efficiency as in an office. This triggered demand for better cameras, audios, phones, laptops. The supply chain had to pivot”
