News Synopsis

As airlines compete to retain and recruit personnel,

EasyJet

will offer new and existing cabin crew a £1,000 bonus at the end of the summer holiday season. The incentives, according to the airline, would recognise personnel' contributions to what it anticipates to be a busy summer, with travel levels approaching pre-Covid levels

Last month, it was discovered that

British Airways

is offering the same amount as a "golden hello" to new employees. The removal of travel restrictions in the United Kingdom has increased the demand for vacations.

Thousands of jobs were lost in the aviation industry during the pandemic, and airports and airlines have been scrambling to fill positions for months as they prepare for a busy summer. However, some businesses have had difficulty finding new employees quickly enough. Hundreds of flights have been canceled by EasyJet and British Airways due to workforce shortages, which have been exacerbated by Covid absenteeism.

Long lines have also been blamed on a lack of staff at other airports, including Manchester and Birmingham, with some travelers missing flights as a result. In April, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA), the UK's aviation watchdog, wrote to airports expressing concern about the impact of staff shortages.
