News Synopsis

Dutch antitrust authorities fined Apple € 5 million ($ 5.7 million) on Monday. This is because the Dutch software application maker did not allow non-Apple payment methods to be used to use the app on the App Store.

The Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has fined Apple € 5 million weekly for missing the January 15 deadline for US companies to order changes from regulators. The authority said that the USA company hadn't made any new proposal to comply with the ruling.

Apple's App Store requirement that app developers use only payment systems for a 30% fee has been scrutinized in several countries, and more recently in the United States.

Apple said in a blog post that it complies with the Dutch ruling by allowing local dating app makers to enable alternative payment methods in the submission of the new application.

Apple plans to charge a 27% fee for in-app payments it doesn't process, just below the 30% it charges for payments it processes. ACM rejected Apple's move because it overwhelmed software developers and was out of compliance.
