News Synopsis

The aviation minister Jyotiraditya Scindia has said that the drone services sector is promising and will increase employment by about one lakh over the next four to five years.

During his speech at an event organized by the Indian-American Chamber of Commerce, he said, “We took out a productivity-linked scheme for the drone sector where a nascent industry of drone manufacturing, which has a total revenue of Rs 60 crore, was given ab incentive of Rs 120 crore over the next three years.”

In the PLI scheme announced last year, incentives for drone and drone component manufacturers are 20% of the company's value addition made by the company over the next three years.

Added value is calculated by subtracting the purchase cost of the drone and the drone component from the annual sales revenue from the drone and the drone component. The ministry has announced the names of 14 drone companies selected as beneficiaries of the PLI scheme.

He said the country plans to increase the number of commercial aircraft from the current 710 to 1,200 over the next five years. The government is also aiming to rapidly expand its flight training organization, which he said will increase from 34 to 58 over the next few years. He said the global aircraft parts industry has made great strides in India.
