News Synopsis

Legendary country music star Dolly Parton is removing herself from Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Nominations. The singer-songwriter shared the news with an Instagram post in which she is flattered and grateful to have the nomination but she does not feel that she has earned that right.

Parton, who entered the music scene in the 1960s, has recorded more than 50 studio albums. The Tennessee native has won at least 10 Grammy Awards and has had 51 nominations for a career that goes far beyond music. Her movies, television shows, and more recently podcast appearances give her a presence in almost every aspect of entertainment.

Parton was one of the 17 candidates who were nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this year. Others include Beck, Pat Benatar, Fela Kuti, Dionne Warwick, Rage Against the Machine, A Tribe Called Quest, Eminem, Lionel Richie and Duran. Artists can be nominated for the title, 25 years after their first commercial recording.

This is not the first accolade Ms Parton has shied away from. She declined the Presidential Medal of Freedom twice.
