News Synopsis

Walt Disney Co. has secured nearly 80 acres of land in Orange County, Florida in order to build more than 1,300  affordable homes as home prices continue to rise in the region's fierce real estate market.

The company has said that an affordable housing developer will build the project near Disney’s Central Florida theme parks. The development is still subject to local approvals.

The company said that not only Disney employees but the general public can also apply for the units. There are a variety of housing options near the Flamingo Crossing Town Center shopping and dining complex just outside Orlando's Disney World. The company did not provide details about the project, such as pricing.

Tansy Soderstrom, chairman of the Orlando Regional Real Estate Association, said home prices in the Orlando region are rising due to low inventory levels and high demand from buyers. She said she expects house prices to continue to rise in 2022.

Disneyland Resort also funded affordable housing called Buena Esperanza for veterans and formerly homeless residents, which opened in 2021 in Anaheim, California
