Demand for manpower increased by 20% in the Travel, Tourism, and Hospitality sector

News Synopsis

As the world is recovering from the wrath of the Covid-19 pandemic, the travel, tourism, and hospitality sectors are gradually recovering and getting back on pre covid track. This has eventually increased the demand for the workforce in these industries. According to Ajay Thomas, business head for retail, e-commerce, logistics, and transportation at TeamLease services, the demand for manpower in these sectors has recently increased by 20%. Some of the roles in these sectors which have high demands are housekeeping, support staff, tour guide, travel consultant, visa consultant, holiday consultant, restaurant managers, bartenders, and waiters.

The major increase in demand for manpower is from the Tourism sector. Domestic Tourism is constantly increasing. Mr. Thomas informing about the increase in demand said:” The travel tourism and hospitality segment is expected to create 53 million jobs in India.” In the financial year 2020, the tourism industry created 39 million jobs. These accounted for around 8% of the total jobs created. The World Travel and Tourism Council forecasted growth of 2% in annual jobs within the tourism industry by the year 2028. It further informed that India’s Tourism and hospitality sector has been a significant contributor in the growth of the services sector.
