News Synopsis

Recently the Excise Department of Delhi has suggested making the home delivery of liquor legal and putting an end to all the discounts offered by vendors in the new Delhi Excise Policy 2022-23. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the Cabinet of Delhi might take a rational decision on this proposal of the Excise Department, this month.

According to the official government procedures, it is compulsory to state the excise policy at the start of every financial year. For the past few years, the Excise Policy has remained constant, however, it was restructured last year by the Delhi government. It then added the definition of new zones and included a one-time charge at the time of bidding for vends. An Excise official said, “If anyone home-delivers liquor as of now, it will be deemed illegal.”

The new 2021 rules stated that shops with L-13 licenses will be allowed to deliver both Indian and foreign alcohol/liquor to the homes of people, however, there is a catch,  the home delivery will only be possible if the order is received through an online web portal or app.
