News Synopsis

Delhi Government has announced a subsidy of Rs 5,500 for each of the first 10,000 buyers of e-cycles as a part of its big push for electric vehicles in the city.

In addition, the first 1,000 buyers of passenger e-cycles will be eligible for an additional subsidy of 2,000 rupees under the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) policy, said Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. He also claimed that Delhi was the first state in the country to provide subsidies in the electronic bicycle segment.

Cargo bike subsidies are Rs 15,000 each for the first 5,000 buyers. He said the subsidy was previously given to individual buyers of e-carts, but now the company and corporate house that buy these vehicles are also given a subsidy of Rs 30,000.

Residents of Delhi are eligible for a subsidy scheme that is linked to an Aadhaar card, Gahlot said, adding that the entire family with an Aadhaar card can receive the subsidy.

The minister said that there are currently 45,900 e-vehicles on the roads in the city, 36% of which are two-wheelers. He added that e-vehicles account for more than 12% of the total number of e-vehicles registered in the national capital.
