News Synopsis

Indian startup Takachar won the Earthshot Prize of this year at the Met Gala that took place on October 17. The Earthshot prize is a way to recognize the voices that are providing long-term solutions to our environment crisis. The prize, given by the Royal foundation, is distributed among five winners who have contributed towards building a sustainable future. This year too, the prize was given to five, including Vidyut Mohan who is the founder of the startup Takachar.

Takachar is an eco-friendly startup that works to convert crop residues into sellable bio-product using eco-friendly methods. The startup has been working continuously to come up with ways to recycle residual waste and turn it into a bio-product without causing any further pollution. It is for this reason that Vidyut Mohan was awarded. Vidyut was amongst the two Indians that were nominated for the award. The other nominee was a 14-year old Tamil Nadu school girl called Vinisha Umashankar. She built a solar-powered iron cart that got international recognition.

Vidyut shared the prize with four other winners from around the globe. Amongst them is a project run by two best friends who are growing coral in the Bahamas designed to restore the world's dying coral reefs won the prize in the 'revive our oceans' category.

Earthshot Prize is a great way to reward people who are constantly working on building a sustainable future. It makes heroes out of people who actually deserve the recognition.
