News Synopsis

The government of India is soon going to make a decision on Tesla’s proposal for the duty cut on its entry into India. Earlier this year, Tesla filed a proposal at the Prime Minister’s Office to cut the taxes and import duty on the sale of the car in India. CEO of Tesla, Elon Musk even said that they will install the manufacturing units in India if it gets successful in the Indian market.

The CEO of Niti Ayog, Amitabh Kant has said that the proposal is being evaluated and soon the decision regarding it, will be announced as well. He also said that the government is welcoming the idea of setting up manufacturing units for electric vehicles in India. The proposal is being studied by the ministries and the Ministry of Finance’s Revenue Department will take the final decision regarding this.

There are also rumors that the government is discussing a temporary reduction in the import duties for three years and for this the company has to submit ‘FIRM’ business plans.
