News Synopsis

India is a country that still depends on coal for 70 percent of the total electricity supply. The coal-based power mix has increased to 66.4% in India during covid. The Power Minister RK Singh has reported the shortage of coal and stressed the fact that he barely has the stock worth for 3 days of power supply. The coal and petroleum shortage in the country is crossing boundaries and the prices of coal have subsequently gone high. Import prices have increased because of covid restriction. Although the demand might go till the middle of October as speculated by Power Minister.
