News Synopsis

At the country's largest air show, China unveiled two new drones that are anticipated to be used to improve reconnaissance and carry out more accurate assaults on military targets. The Zhuhai air show, which is typically conducted every two years, was postponed from last year because of the COVID-19 epidemic and is now being held in front of a mostly domestic audience due to travel restrictions.

In this China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, China will include the WZ-7 high-altitude reconnaissance drone and the CH-6 electronic assault vehicle. The drone has a wingspan of 20.5 meters, a maximum launching weight of 7.8 tonnes, and can carry up to 450 kilograms of payloads such as electro-optic systems, synthetic aperture radar, early warning radars, electronic reconnaissance systems, air-to-ground missiles and bombs, anti-radiation missiles, and weapons. The CH-6 can successfully evade threats from ground-based air defense fire because of its high altitudes and speeds, including a service ceiling of 15 kilometers and a peak speed of 700 kilometers per hour. Even if one engine fails, the other will be sufficient to return the drone to the base. This implies that the UAV has high survivability and can carry out continuous reconnaissance, surveillance, tracking, and assault operations. Anti-submarine operations, maritime patrols, early warning missions, and close-range air support are also possible with the drone. Another new drone, the WZ-7 high-altitude drone for border surveillance and marine patrol, as well as the J-16D fighter with electronic equipment jamming capabilities.
