News Synopsis

On Sunday, the Commerce Ministry told that exports of ceramics and glassware products registered a "record" USD 3.5 billion in the financial year 2021-22. The Ministry of Commerce informed that ceramics and glassware products’ exports increased due to an increase in shipments of ceramic tiles and sanitaryware products. India is the second-largest manufacturer of tiles around the globe. The main items for export under glassware include articles of glass packing, sanitary fixtures of porcelain, glass mirror, tinted non-wired glass, glass bead, and glass wool.

Currently, India exports to more than 125 countries, and its top destinations include Saudi Arabia, the United States, Mexico, Kuwait, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Oman, Indonesia, the United Kingdom, and Poland. The Ministry of Commerce in its statement said, "Over the years, the industry has been modernizing through new innovations and product profile, quality, and design to emerge as a modern world class industry ready to take on global competition.” A few days back, India’s Minister of Commerce and Industry, Piyush Goyal informed that the Ministry has set an ambitious export target of $800 billion for this year.
