Centre Considering COVID-19 Booster Dose for all Adults

News Synopsis

In a bid to enhance the immunity of the country’s citizens against Covid-19, the Indian Government is reportedly considering making all adults eligible for a booster dose of the Covid19 vaccine. This will be an effective step as the covid infections is increasing in other nations of the world and it has become a reason of concern for international travellers. A week before, the Health Ministry of India also requested Indian states to boost surveillance measures for the disease, citing a resurgence in some parts of Asia and Europe. On Monday, Shiv Sena MP, Priyanka Chaturvedi asked the health ministry to issue clear guidelines on the booster dose of the Covid-19 vaccine for those who are under the age of 60. There has been a resurgence of Covid infection in countries like China, Italy, etc. However, the Infections in India have fallen to their lowest in more than a year. India reported  1,549 new cases and 31 deaths in the past 24 hours. A source on the condition of anonymity that the Government is discussing is whether to provide boosters to other groups for free.
