BMW unveils Colour-Changing iX Flow SUV at CES 2022

BMW showcased its colour changing iX Flow SUV at the ongoing CES 2022. This is the first time hen such colour changing technology has been used in cars. The concept used for this colour changing technology is the same as e-readers.  

The car changes its colours from white to black and grey. The colour changing car presented at the CES 2022 is still part of an advanced research and design project. It may take some time for this technology to enter the market. 

Along with the presentation, BMW also explained the technology behind the colour changing car. The company said that the paint job in the iX Flow SUV consists of millions of microcapsules with a diameter equivalent to the thickness of a human hair.

All the microcapsules include negatively charged white pigments and positively charged black pigments. The colour of the car changes according to the setting when an electric field passes through these microcapsules.
