News Synopsis

The BCCI has taken a bold decision to hike the fees of cricket players across the board. From senior players to under-19 Ranji Trophy Players; everyone has gotten a fee hike. This fee hike has come after a long period. The board justified the fee hike as a result of constant good results from Indian cricketers. Many cricketers wanted the board to introduce a contract system for domestic players but since the BCCI has had a long line of corruption, the decision was taken in favor of a per match fee. Now the senior players who have played more than 20 matches will get a sum of 40,000 rupees per match while the reserves would get 20,000 rupees per match. Those senior players who have played between 21 to 40 matches will get a sum of 50,000 rupees. Players who have played more than 40 matches will get a sum of 60,000 rupees.

All this seems like a win-win situation for cricketers but the case is far from it. The troubling aspect of this is that the women cricketers will still get the half of what men cricketer gets. The senior women cricketers will get 20,000 rupees per match while the reserves will get 10,000 rupees per match. This is simply half of what men cricketers will get. This decision reeks of sexism that is entrenched in the system. Even though women cricketers put in the same efforts and play more or less the same number of matches.
