News Synopsis

The Princes and Princess of Wales were among the special guests who walked the red carpet at the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) 2023 on Sunday at the Royal Festival Hall in London.

Even though Prince William and Catherine (Kate) Elizabeth Middleton regularly attend the BAFTAs, this year's ceremony is their first after receiving the new titles and comes after a two-year hiatus. Following his mother Queen Elizabeth II's death in September 2022, King Charles III crowned the duo with the titles of Prince and Princess of Wales.

Due to "diary constraints," the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge did not appear in 2022. Prince Philip's death prevented the royal couple from attending the ceremony in April 2021.

The Princess of Wales opted for a monochrome look, wearing an Alexander McQueen gown that was one shoulder long and flowy and one of her favorite designers. She also added a long, black opera sleeve detail.

Kate's outfit, according to the fashion magazine Bazaar, was a slightly altered version of the same gown she wore in 2019. This time, Kate dressed with a black purse and a striking pair of flowery chandelier earrings from Zara while sporting sleek, straight hair.

Prince William matched his wife's black and white outfit by wearing a double-breasted velvet jacket and a bow tie. Since 2010, Prince William has presided over the BAFTA, and he regularly participates in events that support the British film industry.

Britain's highest cinematic honours are presented each year at the BAFTA Film Awards. Richard E. Grant, an actor and previous Oscar nominee, and TV personality Alison Hammond presided over the ceremony. The "BEST FILM" prize goes to "All Quiet on the Western Front" this year, and the "OUTSTANDING BRITISH FILM" prize went to "The Banshees of Inisherin."

The "BEST DIRECTOR" award was given to Edward Berger for "All Quiet on the Western Front." During the 76th EE BAFTA Awards in 2023, Cate Blanchett for "Tár" and Austin Butler for "Elvis" won the awards for "BEST ACTRESS" and "BEST ACTOR," respectively.
