Arctic Council Resumes Circumpolar Meet Without Russia

News Synopsis

Seven founding states of the Arctic Council issued a joint assertion to renew circumpolar cooperation without Russia. Previously, Canada, Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and the United States Wednesday suspended their participation within side the Arctic Council in opposition to Russia, any other founding state of the circumpolar cooperation platform, Xinhua news agency reported.

Since March 3, representatives from those states have tested modalities to permit a resumption of the paintings of the Arctic Council, the assertion said.

The statement further said, “ We plan to implement a limited resumption of our work in the Arctic Council on projects that do not involve the participation of the Russian Federation.”

"These projects contained within side the paintings plan accepted via way of means of all eight Arctic states on the Reykjavik ministerial, are a critical thing of our obligation to the people of the Arctic, along with Indigenous human beings."

The seven countries continue to examine additional modalities to allow them to further continue the Council’s important work, as per the statement.
