News Synopsis

As part of the new App Store guidelines, Apple has revealed a New Subscription Policy. The most significant change is the addition of Automatic Subscription Renewal, which allows developers to charge extra without your permission. Customers who are already subscribed are notified via email, push notifications, and in-app messages when a developer changes the price of a subscription.

Customers who want to keep their current subscription must opt-in before the new fee is imposed. If clients do not opt-in for the new price, the membership is not renewed, saving money for users who might miss the company's or developer's communications or emails.

Users' services have been "unintentionally disrupted," according to Apple, and they have been forced to re-subscribe. Developers will be able to increase the price of auto-renewable subscriptions without asking the user or getting their consent under the new subscription policy, under specified conditions and with advance notice to users.

The conditions listed for this by Apple are –

  • The price increase shouldn’t occur more than once per year.

  • The price increase shouldn’t exceed $5 or 50% of the subscription price.

  • For annual subscriptions, the price increase shouldn’t exceed $50 or 50% of the subscription price.

  • The price increase should be permissible by local law.
