Tech giant Apple is testing a feature that will allow users to unlock their phones using the Face ID system with a mask on. According to MacRumours, the latest update of Apple, iOS 15.4 beta added a new feature designed to allow Face ID to be used with a mask. It also said that it could also be used without an Apple Watch for authentication.

The company claims that the tech will recognise the unique features around the eye for authentication purposes. The users will require to re-scan the user’s face for Face ID and it will be able to unlock the phone even with a mask on.

Apple has also said that Face ID with a mask to work, an individual must be looking at the device to get it unlocked. The update will also not work while the user is wearing sunglasses. The Face ID with a mask can also be used to secure logins and passwords in apps that support it. The report also included that the new update requires an iPhone 12 or iPhone 13 model and is not available for iPhone 11 at the time.
