News Synopsis

Today, Apple officially inaugurated a second retail store in the nation's capital. Tim Cook, the chief executive officer, unveiled the Apple Saket shop at 10 a.m. After opening its first store in Mumbai's Bandra Kurla Complex a day ago, Apple now has a total of two stores.

On Wednesday, Tim Cook visited with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and customers at the Apple Saket.

The staff at the store is 70 strong, with 50 percent of them being women. The team consists of individuals from the 18 various Indian states who are fluent in more than 15 Indian languages.

Genius Bar, designated pickup areas, and Today at Apple sessions are just a few of the services that Apple Saket provides. Senior vice president of retail at Apple, Deirdre O'Brien, stated: “We’re thrilled to bring the best of Apple to our customers in Delhi with the opening of our second store in India, Apple Saket."

For Apple, which has struggled to gain traction in the Indian market, this action is being viewed as a critical milestone.

In 2017, Apple started producing iPhones in India, and since then, the country's production has gradually increased.

Its production in the nation has noticeably increased recently as a result of supply chain problems in mainland China, where the majority of its smartphones are made.

According to Counterpoint, Apple dramatically expanded its exports from India last year, with the number of iPhones produced and exported from the nation increasing by 65% from the year before.

According to the company, Foxconn and Wistron, two of Apple's major contract manufacturers, had the fastest growth among Indian manufacturers in the third quarter of 2022.

Young Liu, the CEO of Foxconn, spent a week in the nation last month and had a meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Apple said in a statement on Monday that it was collaborating with suppliers to "produce a growing number of components" in addition to its assembly lines for iPhones.

Numerous thousands of employment are supported nationwide by Apple's business with Indian suppliers of various sizes, the company claimed.

Additionally, the company's mobile apps division has grown to support more than 1 million developer jobs throughout the country.

The expansion of Apple's operations in India is a part of a larger trend of businesses shifting their production away from China.

From less than 10% in 2016 to roughly a fifth predicted this year, the south Asian country has considerably increased its share in global smartphone production in recent years.
