News Synopsis

Apple has launched a new personal safety guide for its AirTag tracking accessory. The launch came after the reports of people being stalked by using the device. The Personal Safety Guide was updated on the company’s website with new information.

The update will allow users to check if they are carrying an unknown AirTag and what to do in such a situation. Apple has said that the safety guide is intended for people who are concerned about technology-enabled abuse, stalking, and harassment.

The safety guide also advises users to contact their local US law enforcement who can liaise with the company. AirTag is priced from $29 and is intended to help users keep track of personal items.

The devices started coming under scrutiny after reports emerged of their use among people who have experienced stalking and harassment. Police in Canada also warned people about how it was used by thieves to track high-end vehicles to owners’ driveways, and then steal their vehicles.
