News Synopsis

Apple has been granted a patent by the United States Patent and Trademark Office for haptic output components that emit ultrasonic sound waves. Apple's US patent no. 11,347,312 alludes to a piece of equipment that may be utilised in a controller or head-mounted display to provide users with haptic input when playing games or interacting with virtual items.

According to the patent, Apple's ultrasonic haptic soundwaves may also allow users to feel rain, breeze, or other virtual reality or mixed reality environments through its long-rumored AR/ VR headgear.

The market's AR/VR headsets do not give haptic feedback, which has the potential to improve the reality factor in the virtual reality experience. According to Apple's patent filing, it intends to fix this problem by incorporating ultrasonic haptic soundwaves into AR/VR headsets.

Companies like Meta, Nvidia, Epic Games, Microsoft, Roblox Corporation, and others are investing heavily in mixed and virtual reality technology. These companies are creating a lag-free and seamless metaverse experience by utilising new metaverse-focused technology and software.

Not only are huge tech companies like Apple working on devices that employ ultrasonic waves to produce a sensation oftouch, but a California-based firm called Emerge is as well. According to the manufacturer, their Wave-1 tabletop panel emits ultrasonic waves into the air. Haptic feedback is provided when the user moves their hand around or in front of the panel while engaging with any virtual item.
