News Synopsis

Tech giant Apple has expanded its Maps app's bike routes to users in some cities in the United States, including Chicago, Detroit, and Columbus. Introduced in iOS 14, Bicycle Routes provide users with a wealth of information for future bike rides. Navigation resources include designated bike lanes, trails, slopes, stairs, and obstacles.

The new bike route covers "all of Ohio and West Virginia, and parts of Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, and Virginia," the report said. This is a continuation of the introduction of bicycle lanes on Apple Maps. On April 1, 2022, Apple added them to the northeastern United States.

Apple Maps has been actively expanded and supported since its launch in 2012. In late March 2022, Apple expanded Metro Canada's coverage with advanced navigation and 3D landmarks. With this update, Apple Maps now presents biking instructions for nearly 26 % of US territory, with nearly 52% of the country's populace covered, 9To5Mac reported.
