News Synopsis

Amazon Care was launched in 2019 for Amazon's Seattle-based Washington state employees. These employees were trial users prior to when Amazon Care became accessible to employees in all 50 states. The service links patients online with nurses and doctors who are available all day, every day. It doesn't possess physical facilities, however, it provides in-person services such as influenza testing and vaccinations across several cities such as Seattle as well as Washington, D.C.

Amazon's decision to shut down the service for Amazon Care is even more shocking considering that the company announced in February that it was planning to expand its in-person care service to include an additional 20 cities. This summer, Amazon also began offering the service to private companies across the country. In the email that was sent to employees, Lindsay wrote that Amazon took comments from employers and is working on improving Amazon Care.

"However, despite these efforts, we've determined that Amazon Care isn't the right long-term solution for our enterprise customers," Lindsay wrote. He said Amazon Care" is not a complete enough offering for the large enterprise customers we have been targeting and wasn't going to work long-term."

An Amazon spokesperson refused to reveal the number of people who will lose their jobs due to the closure of Amazon Care.
