News Synopsis

In an interview,  Bisleri International chairman Ramesh Chauhan stated that his daughter Jayanti Chauhan will lead the bottled water company.

This comes only days after Tata Consumer Products revealed that it had ended talks with Bisleri International about acquiring the bottled-water business.

“Jayanti will run the company with our professional team and we do not want to sell the business,”  Chauhan told a media agency in an interview.

In a stock exchange filing on Friday, March 17, 2023, Tata Consumer Products stated, "The company wishes to update that it has now ceased negotiations with Bisleri with regard to a potential transaction and to confirm that the company has not entered into any definitive agreement or binding commitment on this matter."

Jayanti Chauhan, 42, is the vice chairperson of the company her father founded and promoted.

According to those familiar with the situation, she will work with the professional management team led by Angelo George. Jayanti has been active in the business on a regular basis over the years. Her latest focus has been on the Vedika brand, which is part of Bisleri's portfolio.

According to India.com, Tata Group is in discussions with Bisleri International to purchase the firm for an estimated Rs 6,000-Rs 7,000 crore in November 2022.

"I like the Tata culture of values and integrity and hence made up my mind despite the aggression shown by other interested buyers,"  Ramesh Chauhan, chairman of Bisleri International, stated in an interview at the time.

According to India.com, the two-year-old discussions between Tata Consumer Products and Bisleri International have reached a snag due to differences about Bisleri's valuation.

Nevertheless, according to the most recent news story, which cited sources, there were no differences on valuation. Tata Consumer Products canceled the contract with India's leading bottled water brand due to ‘indecisiveness.’

According to the report's analysts, the promoters may alter their views in the future.

“Let us wait and watch,” one of them said to a media agency. “We are sure that interested buyers will continue to wait for an opportunity to buy the brand,”  he added.

Sunil D'Souza, managing director of Tata Consumer Products, emphasized on previous conference calls that acquisitions are still an important element of the company's development plan. “The company will now focus on building its existing bottled water portfolio of Himalayan, Tata Copper Plus Water and Tata Gluco,” one of the reported officials told a media agency.
