News Synopsis

An environmental activist Marie Cohuet hid in a bathroom for over 2 hours in order to gatecrash a fashion event at the Louvre art museum. Her target was Louis Vuitton's Paris Fashion Week. She was protesting against the damage that is caused by the fashion industry. Marie cat walked with a banner that said  'Overconsumption=Extinction'. Marie's courage was well-received on social media where she was lauded for her courage.

The fashion industry has long been one of the biggest contributors to pollution. It is estimated that more than 10% of total carbon emissions are produced by the fashion industry. On top of that, the fashion industry is the second-largest consumer of the world's water supply and pollutes the ocean with microplastic. Add to this the fact that 85% of all textiles go to the dump each year. Washing clothes also sends thousands of bits of plastic into the water.

Fast fashion has slashed the price of clothes but they are known to cause more pollution than anything. Even though fashion brands claim to work towards causing less pollution and working to reduce carbon emissions, nothing much has been done.
