News Synopsis

Members of the World Trade Organization have approved a package of trade agreements containing pledges on health, reform, and food security after more than five days of negotiations on Friday.

Representatives from 164 countries cheered after the package was passed and before Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala addressed them at the beginning of the event. "The package of agreements you have reached will make a difference to the lives of people around the world," she said. She further said that the outcomes demonstrate that the WTO is in fact capable of responding to emergencies of its time.
