WhatsApp is introducing a refreshed ‘About’ section that lets users share temporary status messages with adjustable timers, emojis, and privacy controls. The update also brings the About bubble directly into chats for quick visibility.
WhatsApp is reportedly rolling out a redesigned ‘About’ section that allows users to post activity updates using custom messages and adjustable visibility timers. According to WABetaInfo, the feature includes quick edits, flexible privacy options, and automatic expiry, making it easier for users to keep their profiles current without manual updates.
Additionally, WhatsApp has integrated the About bubble directly into chats, enabling users to see a contact’s current status without opening their profile. Currently, the feature is available for some users via the latest App Store version, and a wider rollout is expected in the coming weeks.
The revamped About section functions as a temporary status system. Users can set updates like:
“In a meeting”
“Out for lunch”
“Traveling”
They can also define how long each status remains active, with timer options ranging from a few hours to a full month. Once the timer ends, the status disappears automatically, ensuring that outdated information no longer remains visible on profiles. The app displays the remaining time for each status, giving users the flexibility to extend, shorten, or replace their updates as needed.
WhatsApp now brings the About status directly into the chat interface. Users can view someone’s temporary status while browsing the conversation list or replying to a message. This feature proves practical in daily scenarios:
If a coworker sets “In a meeting” for two hours, you instantly understand why they may not reply.

To make status updates more expressive, WhatsApp allows the use of emojis in temporary statuses. For instance:

Users can also select from preset durations, such as one day or one week, making the process even simpler. This new design marks a significant improvement over the older static About feature, which often displayed outdated information unless manually updated.
