OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Health, a new health-focused experience within ChatGPT that securely integrates personal medical records and wellness app data—such as Apple Health—to deliver more personalised, context-aware health insights while maintaining strict privacy protections.
OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT Health, a new health-focused experience within ChatGPT designed to combine personal health information with AI assistance in a secure and privacy-isolated environment. The feature allows users to connect medical records and supported wellness apps, enabling health-related questions to be answered with better personal context rather than generic information.
Developed with input from physicians, ChatGPT Health adds extra privacy safeguards due to the sensitive nature of medical data. The rollout is gradual, with early access limited to select users, and some features — including Apple Health integration — requiring an iOS device.
According to OpenAI, health and wellness is already one of ChatGPT’s most common use cases. ChatGPT Health builds on this by offering a dedicated space where responses are informed by a user’s own health data.
Unlike regular chats, Health conversations operate in a separate environment, keeping medical information isolated from other ChatGPT interactions.
OpenAI said the feature addresses a common issue: health data is often scattered across hospital portals, PDFs, apps, emails, and wearable devices.
ChatGPT Health centralises this information so users can:
Understand lab reports more easily
Prepare for doctor visits
Review long-term health trends
Track diet, fitness, and wellness data
OpenAI emphasised that ChatGPT Health is not meant to replace medical professionals, but instead helps users better understand their information and feel more prepared when speaking with healthcare providers.
Users can securely link medical records and wellness apps, including:
Apple Health (iOS only)
Function
MyFitnessPal
Weight Watchers
AllTrails
Instacart
Peloton
These connections allow ChatGPT Health to reference personal data during conversations when relevant.
ChatGPT Health functions as a standalone space within ChatGPT, with:
Its own conversations
Separate memories
Isolated connected data
Once medical records or apps are linked, ChatGPT can reference that information only within Health conversations to provide more relevant responses.
Health chats support standard ChatGPT features, including:
File uploads
Photos
Voice input
Search
Deep research
According to OpenAI, the system focuses on identifying patterns over time, helping users with tasks such as:
Summarising bloodwork
Tracking fitness progress
Preparing questions for medical appointments
Users can set Health-specific custom instructions to control:
How information is presented
What topics should be limited or avoided
These instructions apply only within the Health space and can be modified at any time.
Sign up for the ChatGPT Health waitlist to request access
Once enabled, select Health from the ChatGPT sidebar
Upload medical files or connect records and wellness apps via Settings or in-chat tools
Start health-related conversations as usual, with ChatGPT referencing connected information when relevant
Add or update Health-specific custom instructions from Health or Settings
OpenAI said it plans to expand supported connections and capabilities over time, based on user feedback.
OpenAI stated that access is initially limited to a small group of users on:
ChatGPT Free
ChatGPT Go
ChatGPT Plus
ChatGPT Pro
Availability is outside the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.
Wider rollout on web and iOS is planned in the coming weeks. Some app integrations are currently US-only, and Apple Health support requires iOS.
OpenAI said ChatGPT Health includes additional privacy protections, including:
Health data operating in an isolated environment
Health conversations, files, and memories kept separate from other chats
Health data not accessible outside the Health space
Health data excluded from training OpenAI’s foundation models
Encryption at rest and in transit, with added isolation layers
Users can:
View or delete Health memories at any time
Enable multi-factor authentication for extra security
In related developments, Amazon is also reportedly testing an AI-based health assistant. According to a March 2025 CNBC report, Amazon piloted a chatbot called Health AI on its website and app.
The chatbot reportedly:
Answered general health and wellness questions
Explained common care options
Recommended relevant products
However, Amazon’s approach appears more informational and commerce-linked, guiding users toward its online pharmacy and One Medical services.
In contrast, ChatGPT Health focuses on securely integrating personal medical records and wellness data within a privacy-isolated environment, rather than product recommendations.
With ChatGPT Health, OpenAI is taking a major step into personalised digital healthcare, combining AI assistance with real user health data — while placing strong emphasis on privacy, security, and user control.
