Vodafone Idea (Vi) users have received some disappointing news. The company has discontinued its ₹249 prepaid plan, which offered 1 GB daily data, 100 SMS per day, and unlimited voice calls. Once the daily data limit was reached, internet speed was reduced to 64 Kbps.
With this plan no longer available, Vi users will now need to opt for higher-priced plans. Previously, telecom operators like Jio and Airtel had already removed their 1 GB daily data plans, and Vi is now following the same strategy.
According to Telecom Talk, Vi may have removed the plan to encourage customers to choose higher data plans. The company is now focusing on plans offering 1.5 GB or more daily data.
Jio and Airtel had already phased out most of their sub-₹300 plans with 1 GB daily data, which helped boost their revenues.
Following this trend, Vi aims to increase its earnings by promoting higher-priced, higher-data plans.
Vi still offers a ₹239 plan, which includes:
28 days validity
Unlimited voice calls
300 SMS
Jio Hotstar mobile subscription
While daily data limits are not specified for this plan, it is considered a reasonable alternative to the discontinued ₹249 plan.
Jio continues to offer several budget-friendly plans:
₹209 plan: 22 days validity, 1 GB daily data, 100 SMS per day, unlimited calls, plus JioTV and JioCloud. After daily data is exhausted, speed reduces to 64 Kbps.
₹189 plan: 28 days validity, total 2 GB data, unlimited voice calls.
₹799 plan: 84 days validity, 1.5 GB daily data.
These options allow customers to choose based on their data needs and budget.
Telecom companies like Vi, Jio, and Airtel are gradually pushing users towards higher-data, higher-priced plans.
Daily data of 1.5 GB or more is now the new benchmark for premium plans.
The shift ensures higher revenue generation for telecom operators.
Conclusion
Vi’s discontinuation of the ₹249 1 GB daily plan reflects a larger trend in India’s telecom market. Operators are now phasing out low-cost, low-data plans to promote more expensive plans with higher daily data, benefiting both users seeking more data and companies looking to increase revenue.
