Pune-based Vayve Mobility has introduced Vayve Eva, India’s first-ever solar-powered electric vehicle (EV), marking a significant milestone in the country’s electric mobility sector. This revolutionary car was launched at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025, with a starting price of ₹3.25 lakh (ex-showroom).
The company has opened official bookings for the vehicle, requiring a token amount of ₹5,000. Although deliveries of the Vayve Eva will only begin in the latter half of 2026, the car has generated significant interest due to its innovative solar power features.
Vayve is offering the Eva in three battery pack options: 9 kWh, 12 kWh, and 18 kWh, with prices ranging up to ₹5.99 lakh (ex-showroom). The vehicle is available in three distinct variants: Nova, Stella, and Vega. Here are the pricing details for each variant:
Nova:
With battery rental plan: ₹3.25 lakh
Without battery rental plan: ₹3.99 lakh
Stella:
With battery rental plan: ₹3.99 lakh
Without battery rental plan: ₹4.99 lakh
Vega:
With battery rental plan: ₹4.49 lakh
Without battery rental plan: ₹5.99 lakh
To make the Vayve Eva more affordable, the company has introduced a battery rental plan. Instead of purchasing the battery outright, users can subscribe to a battery at a cost of ₹2 per kilometer driven. This reduces the initial purchase price, making it more accessible to a larger audience. However, there are minimum mileage requirements for each variant:
Nova: 600 km annually
Stella: 800 km annually
Vega: 1,200 km annually
These charges apply even if the actual driving distance is less than the minimum required mileage.
The Vayve Eva promises a drastic reduction in running costs compared to conventional vehicles. According to the company’s internal surveys, the running cost of a petrol hatchback is approximately ₹5 per kilometer, while the Eva reduces this cost to just ₹0.5 per kilometer. This significant savings is attributed to the Eva’s lightweight and compact design, which maximizes efficiency.
Additionally, the Vayve Eva offers an optional solar roof, which provides up to 3,000 km of free solar charging annually. This can cover up to 30% of a typical city commuter’s yearly driving needs, further reducing operational costs and enhancing sustainability.
The Vayve Eva is available in three variants, each offering a different combination of battery and motor options:
Nova:
Battery pack: 9 kWh
Power: 16 PS
Range: 125 km
Stella:
Battery pack: 14 kWh
Power: 16 PS
Range: 175 km
Vega:
Battery pack: 18 kWh
Power: 20 PS
Range: 250 km
Each variant comes with a rear-wheel-drive (RWD) configuration, ensuring a smooth and efficient driving experience. Furthermore, the solar roof panel is designed to provide an additional 10 km of range per day. The Vayve Eva can reach a top speed of 70 km/h and accelerate from 0 to 40 km/h in just 5 seconds.
The Vayve Eva is designed with modern features to enhance user experience and convenience:
Twin-screen setup: The vehicle comes equipped with a touchscreen infotainment system and a digital instrument cluster.
Connectivity: Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are included, allowing seamless integration with smartphones.
Comfort: The car features a 6-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat, manual AC, and a two-spoke steering wheel for ease of driving.
Aesthetic design: The vehicle also boasts a fixed glass roof, adding to its sleek and stylish look.
Conclusion
The Vayve Eva represents a significant step forward in India’s electric vehicle market, with its innovative use of solar power and battery rental system. By offering a combination of affordable pricing, low running costs, and sustainability, it is poised to appeal to eco-conscious consumers looking for an alternative to traditional petrol and diesel cars. As the EV market continues to evolve, the Eva sets a new benchmark for the future of transportation in India.
