News Synopsis

Toyota Motor Corp said on Tuesday that due to a semiconductor shortage, it will reduce its global production plan by 100,000 vehicles to around 850,000 in June. However, the company did not change its forecast of producing approximately 9.7 million vehicles globally by March 2023.

The Japanese automaker also announced the suspension of additional domestic factory lines due to a supply shortage caused by the COVID-19 lockdown in Shanghai. The additional suspension will last up to five days between Wednesday and June 3, affecting 16 lines at ten factories in total for the months of May and June.

It plans to produce approximately 850,000 vehicles globally per month on average from June to August, adding that chip shortages, COVID-19 outbreaks, and other factors "are making it difficult to look ahead."

A few months back, Toyota Motors unveiled India’s first hydrogen fuel cell EVToyota Mirai. The newly launched car is powered by a hydrogen fuel cell. This can provide the car a range of 600 km on a single tank of hydrogen. Another striking feature of the car is that it just takes five minutes to refuel the car and rather than emitting toxic smoke as conventional cars do, it just emits water.
