Toyota Kirloskar Motor officially introduced the Neo Drive 48V variants of the Fortuner and Legender SUVs on June 2, 2025, in Bangalore. These new models bring a segment-first 48V mild-hybrid system aimed at enhancing fuel efficiency and driving dynamics. The ex-showroom price of the Fortuner Neo Drive 48V starts at Rs 44.72 lakh, while the Legender Neo Drive 48V is priced at Rs 50.09 lakh. Bookings opened the same day, with customer deliveries expected to begin in the third week of June.
Both SUVs are powered by Toyota's trusted 2.8-litre, 4-cylinder turbo-diesel engine mated with a newly integrated 48V mild-hybrid system. This includes a belt-integrated starter generator (BISG) and a lithium-ion battery. The mild-hybrid setup improves low-end torque, enables quieter engine start-stop cycles, and enhances fuel economy through regenerative braking.
Varinder Wadhwa, Vice President of Sales, Service, and Used Car Business at Toyota Kirloskar Motor, emphasized the importance of innovation in the evolving SUV segment. He stated that the Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive 48V variants represent a commitment to sustainable mobility and improved customer value. The launch aligns with Toyota’s global multi-pathway strategy toward carbon neutrality.
A standout addition in the Neo Drive variants is the Smart Idle Start-Stop system, which automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle is stationary, helping reduce fuel consumption during city driving. The Multi-Terrain Select function allows drivers to optimize traction control and throttle response based on various off-road conditions.
The Fortuner continues its legacy with a rugged, off-road-oriented design, while the Legender targets premium SUV buyers with its dual-tone exterior, split LED headlamps, and sleeker front fascia. Inside, both models feature dual-tone leather upholstery, soft-touch panels, and ergonomically designed seats to enhance comfort and aesthetics.
The Neo Drive editions include several premium features such as a 360-degree panoramic camera for improved visibility, wireless smartphone charging, and a unique Neo Drive badge signifying the hybrid technology. These features contribute to a modern driving experience tailored to tech-savvy consumers.
Toyota has retained a robust set of safety features in both variants. These include seven airbags, ABS with EBD, Vehicle Stability Control, Traction Control, Hill Assist, and a Child Restraint System. Additional measures like seatbelt pre-tensioners, speed-sensing auto door locks, and WIL (Whiplash Injury Lessening) concept seats further enhance occupant safety.
Customers can benefit from flexible financing plans, including EMIs for up to eight years, Toyota Smart Balloon Finance, and pre-approved Value-Added Services. The Neo Drive variants are backed by a standard 3-year/100,000 km warranty, extendable to 5 years/220,000 km, alongside five years of complimentary roadside assistance. Toyota Smiles Plus packages offer further customizable maintenance options.
Since its 2009 launch, the Fortuner has consistently led the premium SUV market in India. Toyota Kirloskar Motor operates two manufacturing plants in Bidadi, Karnataka, with a combined annual production capacity of up to 3.42 lakh units, ensuring robust supply for the growing demand.
Conclusion
With the launch of the Fortuner and Legender Neo Drive 48V variants, Toyota reinforces its leadership in the SUV space by offering technology-led, fuel-efficient, and feature-rich vehicles. These additions mark another step in Toyota’s path toward sustainable mobility in India.
