The last week of November will be exciting for India’s SUV market, with Tata Motors preparing to launch the new Tata Sierra on November 25 and Mahindra set to unveil the XEV 9S electric SUV on November 27. Both models aim to elevate their segments with modern platforms, cutting-edge cabin technologies, and premium features.
The final week of November is set to bring two major SUV launches to the Indian automotive market. Tata Motors will launch the new Tata Sierra on November 25, while Mahindra & Mahindra is preparing to introduce the XEV 9S electric SUV on November 27. Both SUVs will debut with modern platforms, advanced cabin technologies, and feature-rich packages designed to strengthen their respective brand lineups.
The 2025 Tata Sierra marks the revival of an iconic name, now returning in a fully modern avatar. It will join Tata’s expanding SUV portfolio, which already includes the Punch, Nexon, Curvv, Harrier, and Safari. Positioned in the highly competitive mid-size SUV segment, the Sierra will compete against the Hyundai Creta, Kia Seltos, Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara, Maruti Suzuki VictoriS, Toyota Urban Cruiser Hyryder, Mahindra Thar Roxx, Tata Curvv, Honda Elevate, Skoda Kushaq, and Volkswagen Taigun.
The new Sierra is expected to be priced from around ₹12 lakh (ex-showroom), with top-end variants going up to ₹22 lakh.
Tata has retained the Sierra’s signature three-quarter glass design but updated it to meet modern styling and safety standards. New additions include flush glazing, a panoramic sunroof, and a black roof strip, giving the SUV an airy and distinctive appearance.
The SUV features all-LED lighting, including a full-width ‘Light Saber’ LED DRL up front and a slim LED light bar at the rear. Other exterior highlights include:
19-inch alloy wheels
Flush door handles
Prominent rear fenders
Black body cladding
Clamshell-style tailgate
Floating-roof design
The interior of the Tata Sierra comes equipped with the advanced Theatre Pro multi-screen layout and a Horizon View display configuration that both driver and front passenger can share. Premium features include:
Sonic Shaft soundbar
12-speaker JBL audio system with Dolby Atmos
Ambient lighting
Soft-touch dashboard materials
Floating center console
Floating door armrests
Auto-dimming IRVM
Wireless charging
The front seats offer ventilation and electric adjustment, along with memory presets for the driver seat. Rear passengers benefit from increased legroom, headroom, and a flat floor that enhances comfort for the middle-seat occupant.
The new Tata Sierra may be offered in three engine options:
1.5L naturally aspirated petrol
1.5L Hyperion direct-injection turbo-petrol
1.5L diesel engine
Both manual and automatic transmissions are expected. Additional features could include multiple terrain modes, an electronic parking brake with auto-hold, and an estimated boot space of around 500 liters. Tata will first launch the ICE (petrol/diesel) variants, followed by the electric Sierra early next year.
Two days after Tata’s launch, Mahindra will introduce its third electric vehicle (BEV) and first 7-seater electric SUV, the XEV 9S. This model follows the BE 6 and XEV 9e, launched in November 2024, which have collectively crossed 30,000 units in sales. With the XEV 9S, Mahindra aims to further strengthen its INGLO platform-based EV portfolio and expand its presence in the growing electric SUV segment.
The teaser images show a premium cabin with a triple-screen setup similar to the XEV 9e, consisting of:
Digital instrument cluster
Central infotainment screen
Co-passenger display
Other features include:
Two-spoke steering wheel with illuminated logo
Panoramic sunroof (replacing the fixed glass roof seen earlier)
Harmon Kardon audio system
Ventilated and powered front seats with memory
Powered boss mode for co-driver seat
Sliding second-row seats
Flat-floor layout for enhanced cabin space
Mahindra offers the BE 6 and XEV 9e with 59 kWh and 79 kWh battery options, both delivering a driving range of over 500 km. The XEV 9S is expected to offer an even higher range—possibly exceeding 600 km. An all-wheel-drive (AWD) variant is also likely.
Since the XEV 9e is priced up to ₹31.25 lakh (ex-showroom), the XEV 9S will likely be positioned above it, making it Mahindra’s most premium and capable electric SUV yet.
