Sony has officially launched the WH-1000XM6, the 2025 flagship model in its acclaimed 1000X series of wireless headphones. Designed for audiophiles and professionals alike, the WH-1000XM6 promises a massive leap in active noise cancellation (ANC), smarter listening modes, and studio-quality sound, developed in collaboration with globally recognized recording studios.
The WH-1000XM6 will be available in Black, Platinum Silver, and a new Midnight Blue colourway. While Sony has started rolling out the headphones in select global markets this month, India availability is yet to be officially confirmed.
At the core of the WH-1000XM6 is Sony’s newly updated HD Noise Cancelling Processor QN3. According to the company, this processor is seven times faster than its predecessor and dynamically fine-tunes 12 onboard microphones in real time, enhancing both ANC performance and sound clarity.
This update introduces smarter sound processing and sharper isolation of ambient noise, making it ideal for commuters, remote workers, and frequent travellers.
Sony has added new intelligent features that elevate the listening experience:
Adaptive NC Optimizer: Adjusts noise cancellation levels based on surroundings.
Auto Ambient Sound Mode: Automatically balances ambient sounds for awareness in different environments.
Scene-Based Listening: Uses built-in sensors to detect user activity—walking, sitting, commuting—and adjusts playback and ANC accordingly.
These features ensure a seamless transition between indoor and outdoor settings without needing manual adjustments.
In a first, Sony collaborated with Sterling Sound, Battery Studios, and Coast Mastering to tune the WH-1000XM6 for studio-grade sound accuracy. The headphones feature a new carbon fibre composite dome structure and a redesigned voice coil, offering:
Richer, fuller vocals
Improved instrument separation
Enhanced bass depth and treble clarity
For audiophiles, the WH-1000XM6 supports High-Resolution Audio and High-Resolution Audio Wireless via LDAC codec, ensuring lossless, high-fidelity playback.
The headphones also incorporate Sony’s Edge-AI and DSEE Extreme, which intelligently upscale compressed audio files in real-time, restoring lost frequencies and delivering near-lossless quality. Other audio-centric features include:
Background Music Effect for enhanced ambience
Game EQ Mode for immersive gaming sound
360 Reality Audio Upmix for Cinema for spatial audio while streaming content
These features are tailored for music lovers, gamers, and content streamers alike.
Sony has focused on improving call quality by equipping the WH-1000XM6 with:
Six beamforming microphones
AI-powered voice isolation technology
Voice pick-up tech for clearer speech in noisy settings
These enhancements make the headphones an ideal choice for online meetings, voice commands, and calls in crowded areas.
In terms of design, the WH-1000XM6 introduces several upgrades for better comfort and usability:
Wider, pressure-free headband crafted from vegan leather
Asymmetrical earcup design for easy left-right distinction
Stretchable ear cushions for improved passive noise isolation
Metal-injected folding mechanism for enhanced durability and portability
These updates aim to provide a longer, fatigue-free listening experience for extended daily use.
