Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 chipset, bringing premium-level AI features and significant performance improvements to mid-range smartphones. This new processor delivers enhanced CPU and GPU capabilities, on-device generative AI, and several first-time features for the Snapdragon 7-series.
Chinese smartphone brands Vivo and HONOR have already confirmed they will be among the first to launch smartphones powered by the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4, with devices expected to hit the market later this month.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is manufactured using a 4nm fabrication process, enabling better power efficiency and thermal management. The chipset features a new Kryo CPU architecture composed of:
1 Prime Core @ 2.8GHz
4 Performance Cores @ 2.4GHz
3 Efficiency Cores @ 1.8GHz
It supports up to 16GB of LPDDR5x RAM and a variety of storage options, including UFS 4.0, UFS 3.1, and UFS 2.0.
According to Qualcomm, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 offers:
27% faster CPU performance
30% improvement in GPU power
65% increase in AI processing efficiency
compared to its predecessor, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3.
One of the headline features of the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 is its advanced on-device AI capabilities. The chipset supports the Stable Diffusion 1.5 model, enabling fast image generation without relying on cloud servers. It is also compatible with large language models (LLMs), unlocking capabilities like:
Real-time language translation
Smart voice assistants
Automated content creation
This makes the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 a powerful tool for developers building AI-driven mobile applications.
Gamers will see a major performance uplift with the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4. It comes equipped with:
Snapdragon Game Super Resolution for enhanced visuals
Game Quick Touch for low-latency input
Adaptive Performance Engine 4.0 and Adaptive Game Configuration, which dynamically manage CPU/GPU loads to optimize battery efficiency while ensuring smooth gameplay.
These features make mobile gaming more immersive and responsive.
The new chipset introduces a triple Image Signal Processor (ISP) for the first time in the 7-series lineup. This enables:
Hardware-accelerated electronic image stabilization (EIS)
AI-powered auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance
These additions allow for superior photo and video quality even in challenging lighting conditions.
For audiophiles, the Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 supports the Snapdragon Sound Technology Suite, delivering:
Lossless music streaming
Ultra-low latency wireless audio for gaming and video
Support for Qualcomm’s XPAN (Expanded Personal Area Network), ensuring stable, broad audio coverage in larger environments
These upgrades make the chipset ideal for both media consumption and real-time communication.
The Snapdragon 7 Gen 4 integrates the Snapdragon 5G Modem-RF System, supporting:
5G download speeds of up to 4.2 Gbps
Enhanced network reliability and efficiency
Additionally, it introduces support for Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0, bringing next-gen wireless standards to mid-tier devices.
