Renault has finally launched its highly anticipated electric hatchback Kwid EV in Brazil, where it will be sold as the ‘Kwid E-Tech’. The petrol version of this car had created a sensation in the Indian entry-level car segment, and now the electric variant is set to make a mark in the EV space.
This launch is considered a key step in Renault’s electrification strategy. Notably, several test mules of the Kwid EV have been spotted on Indian roads, suggesting that Renault could soon bring this electric hatchback to the Indian market, potentially competing with popular EVs like the Citroën eC3 and Tata Tiago EV.
The Kwid EV is based on the Dacia Spring EV platform, which is already popular in the European market. The electric variant retains design cues from its petrol version but includes key EV-specific updates.
The front grille is closed and features vertical slats, giving the car a distinctive electric look. Projector headlamps are positioned on either side of the bumper, completing the modern front fascia.
The Kwid E-Tech comes with several design elements that differentiate it from other compact electric cars:
Integrated turn indicators on ORVMs
14-inch steel wheels with dual-tone wheel covers
Thick wheel arch cladding for a sporty, robust appearance
Black door cladding, flip-up door handles, and signature EV badging add to its modern styling
However, the color options at launch appear slightly muted compared to the vibrant Dacia Spring EV shades, as seen in Renault’s official press images.
Inside, the Kwid EV stands out with its modern and tech-rich cabin:
10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay
7-inch digital instrument cluster
USB-C port and height-adjustable steering wheel
Boot space of 290 liters
Renault has equipped the Kwid EV with comprehensive safety features:
Six airbags
ABS with EBD, ESP, Hill-start Assist, and rear camera
TPMS, seatbelt reminders, and ISOFIX mounts
Level-1 Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) for enhanced driver support
The Kwid EV is powered by a 26.8 kWh lithium-ion battery pack, delivering a claimed range of up to 250 km on a single charge. Its electric motor produces approximately 65 hp of peak power, making it ideal for city driving.
While Renault has not officially confirmed the Indian launch date, the frequent sightings of test mules indicate that the Kwid EV could arrive in India by 2026. If launched, it could become one of the most affordable and stylish electric hatchbacks in the country, much like the petrol Kwid did when it revolutionized the entry-level car segment a decade ago.
