Since its launch in February 2024, the scheme has received around 7.77 million applications, while nearly 4.19 million rooftop solar installations have been completed across the country.
The latest figures were shared in Parliament by Minister of State for New and Renewable Energy and Power Shripad Yesso Naik.
The installations completed under the scheme have contributed approximately 14,894.95 MW of rooftop solar capacity. The systems have been installed across around 5.04 million households, demonstrating the growing adoption of residential solar power in India.
The government has also released ₹28,390.50 crore in Central Financial Assistance to support beneficiaries under the programme. The installation figure represents roughly 54% of the applications received nationally.
Gujarat has emerged as the leading state in terms of rooftop solar installations under the scheme.
The state has recorded approximately 7,80,553 installations, followed by:
Uttar Pradesh: 7,29,337 installations
Maharashtra: 7,11,190 installations
Kerala: 3,15,129 installations
Rajasthan: 2,83,051 installations
The numbers highlight strong adoption of residential solar systems across several major states.
Gujarat is also ahead in terms of total rooftop solar capacity installed through the programme. The state has reached approximately 2,924.99 MW, followed by Maharashtra with 2,608.12 MW and Uttar Pradesh with 2,456.15 MW.
Other states reporting significant capacity include:
Kerala: 1,220.83 MW
Rajasthan: 1,097.92 MW
The figures indicate that some of India's largest solar markets are increasingly using rooftop installations to meet household electricity needs.
While Gujarat leads in completed installations, Maharashtra has recorded the highest number of applications under the scheme. The state received nearly 14,59,943 applications.
Uttar Pradesh followed with 11,83,914 applications, while Gujarat received approximately 11,78,459 applications. Andhra Pradesh also recorded substantial interest, with around 9,12,788 applications submitted under the programme.
The application numbers suggest that demand for residential solar power remains strong across different parts of India.
The government describes PM Surya Ghar as a demand-driven scheme designed to encourage households to install rooftop solar systems. Residential electricity consumers who have a grid-connected connection from their local distribution company can apply through the national portal.

Tamil Nadu has also made progress under the scheme. The state recorded approximately 88,133 rooftop solar installations from 1,06,266 applications.
Around 1,04,059 households have been covered, while the total installed capacity has reached approximately 320.24 MW.
The government has released around ₹589 crore in financial assistance for the state.
Uttarakhand has reported 98,443 installations from around 1,43,406 applications. The state's rooftop solar capacity has reached approximately 354.41 MW.
Around ₹769 crore in subsidy has been released to support installations in Uttarakhand, according to the ministry's figures.
Chhattisgarh recorded approximately 87,106 rooftop solar installations from 1,96,400 applications. Telangana reported around 56,462 installations from 87,832 applications.
The participation of states across different regions demonstrates the nationwide reach of the PM Surya Ghar programme.
