India’s capital is set to witness a major push in infrastructure and urban development as Narendra Modi prepares to inaugurate and lay the foundation for projects worth nearly ₹33,500 crore in Delhi on March 8. These initiatives focus primarily on expanding the Delhi Metro network and redeveloping government housing infrastructure. The projects aim to enhance connectivity, modernize residential facilities for government employees, and improve overall urban infrastructure in the national capital.
The upcoming projects represent one of the most significant development initiatives in the national capital in recent times. The combined investment of ₹33,500 crore will support transportation expansion and residential redevelopment.
The projects are expected to benefit millions of residents by improving public transport connectivity, easing daily commutes, and creating modern residential and office infrastructure. In addition to improving mobility across the city, these initiatives will strengthen Delhi’s urban planning framework and support long-term economic growth.
One of the most significant highlights of the development package is the expansion of the Delhi Metro network, which will involve an investment of approximately ₹18,300 crore. Metro connectivity has been a crucial part of Delhi’s urban transport system, and the new corridors are expected to further enhance the efficiency and reach of the network.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate two newly constructed metro corridors that are set to improve connectivity across several densely populated areas of the city.
The first corridor is the 12.3 km Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur section on the Pink Line. This stretch will significantly enhance connectivity in North-East Delhi and reduce travel time for thousands of daily commuters.
The second corridor is the 9.9 km Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park section on the Magenta Line. This extension will connect important residential and commercial zones and provide easier access to other metro lines.
These metro routes will improve access to several key localities, including:
Burari
Jagatpur–Wazirabad
Khajuri Khas
Bhajanpura
Yamuna Vihar
Madhuban Chowk
Haiderpur Badli Mor
Bhalaswa
Majlis Park
By linking these areas more effectively to the broader metro network, the projects aim to reduce traffic congestion and encourage the use of sustainable public transportation.
In addition to inaugurating new lines, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for three new metro corridors under Phase V-A. These projects will cover a total distance of 16.1 kilometers.
The upcoming metro corridors include:
RK Ashram Marg to Indraprastha
Aerocity to Terminal 1 of Indira Gandhi International Airport
Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj
These routes are strategically designed to strengthen connectivity between important regions such as Noida, South Delhi, and the airport zone. Once completed, they will offer faster travel options for passengers commuting between residential areas, business districts, and the airport.
Another major component of the initiative is the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan, which involves projects worth approximately ₹15,200 crore.

Netaji Nagar
Kasturba Nagar
Sriniwaspuri
Under this program, more than 9,350 modern flats will be constructed to provide better living conditions for government employees. In addition, around 48 lakh square feet of office space will be created to accommodate administrative functions and improve workplace infrastructure.
As part of the redevelopment program, Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also visit newly built Type-5 GPRA quarters in Sarojini Nagar. During the visit, he is scheduled to hand over keys to female allottees, marking a symbolic step toward empowering women in public service.
The newly developed residential complexes will feature modern facilities, improved infrastructure, green spaces, and upgraded public amenities. These changes aim to provide government employees with a more comfortable and sustainable living environment.
One of the most notable aspects of the GPRA redevelopment initiative is its self-sustaining financial model. Instead of relying entirely on government funding, the project incorporates a strategic approach to financing.
Under this model, a limited portion of the redeveloped land will be used for commercial and residential development. The revenue generated from these developments will be used to fund the construction of modern housing, public infrastructure, and other facilities within the project.
This approach ensures that the redevelopment is carried out without placing an additional burden on the public exchequer, making it an innovative example of sustainable urban development.
The projects being launched on March 8 represent a major step toward transforming urban infrastructure in Delhi.
