Piyush Goyal Talks About Rising Food Inflation

News Synopsis

India talked tough in Geneva. In a private session of the 12th Ministerial Conference, Union Trade and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal talked about rising food inflation and the need for agreement on food stockpiling by developing countries.

Trade Minister Piyush Goyal also cornered down the WTO during the Covid-19 pandemic for failing to protect the health of people in poor countries. He states, "The pandemic has strengthened the meaning of" One Earth One Health "and called for global solidarity and collective action.

Last Sunday, India attended the G33 Ministerial Meeting hosted by Indonesia. At the meeting, the  Minister of Trade said, "We are fighting for developing countries and LDCs. They are always at the receiving end." He mentioned the Uruguay agreement and how the developing world got a raw deal in the past." India also cautioned the WTO of an agreement to reduce fishery subsidies. Goyal said he should not repeat the same mistakes of the past.
