Nissan Motor India is set to shake up the family car segment with the launch of its new compact MPV, Gravite, scheduled for next week. The model will mark Nissan’s first major product launch of 2026 in India.
The Indian family car market is set to witness increased competition as Nissan Motor India prepares to launch its new compact MPV, the Nissan Gravite, next week. The Gravite will be Nissan’s first major launch of 2026 and forms part of the company’s strategy to introduce three new models over the next 18 months.
Developed with Indian families, taxi operators and budget-conscious buyers in mind, the Gravite will be manufactured locally in India and exported to select international markets.
Nissan’s focus on India as a manufacturing and export hub continues to strengthen.
In December 2025, Nissan exported 13,470 vehicles, its highest monthly export figure in the past decade
Total exports for 2025 crossed 1.2 million units
Against this backdrop, the Gravite is expected to play a key role in Nissan’s India roadmap.
The MPV is based on the Renault Triber platform, but Nissan has given it a distinctive design identity. In the market, it will compete directly with models such as the Maruti Ertiga, Renault Triber and Kia Carens.
Nissan Gravite MPV: January 21, 2026
Nissan Tekton (5-seater SUV): February 4, 2026
Third model: A larger three-row SUV planned for 2027
All three vehicles will be manufactured in India and exported to global markets.
The Gravite is built on the CMF-A platform, shared with the Renault Triber, but features a more SUV-inspired design.
Wide black front grille
Slim LED light strip with integrated headlamps
Sharp creases on the bonnet
Prominent GRAVITE lettering at the front
Connected LED tail-lamps at the rear
Upright tailgate and roof spoiler
Skid-plate-style rear bumper for a rugged SUV-like stance
The Nissan Gravite will feature a three-row seating layout, offering space for up to seven occupants.
Modular, foldable seats for flexible luggage space
Large touchscreen infotainment system
Digital instrument cluster
Ample legroom across rows
Rear AC vents
Multiple storage compartments
While Nissan has not revealed full interior details yet, the focus is expected to be on comfort and practicality.
The Gravite will be powered by a 1.0-litre petrol engine, offered in two variants:
1.0-litre naturally aspirated petrol
1.0-litre turbo-petrol
Both manual and automatic transmission options will be available. The MPV is expected to deliver good fuel efficiency, making it suitable for daily city and highway use.
Deliveries are likely to begin in March 2026
Pricing is expected to be highly competitive
Estimated starting price: around ₹6–7 lakh
To support its product expansion, Nissan is also rapidly strengthening its retail presence. The company aims to expand its dealer network to 250 showrooms and service centres by FY2027, ensuring improved sales and after-sales support across India.
Conclusion
With competitive pricing, practical features and a family-focused design, the Nissan Gravite MPV is poised to become a crucial model in Nissan’s India strategy. Its launch next week is expected to intensify competition in the compact MPV segment while reinforcing India’s role as a key manufacturing and export base for Nissan.
