Jaguar Land Rover (JLR) has officially revealed the new Defender Octa Black, a bold, all-black version of the brand’s high-performance off-road SUV. This new edition takes the already aggressive Defender Octa and adds a darker, more sinister aesthetic with enhanced black detailing throughout.
At the heart of the Defender Octa Black is its new Narvik Black paint finish, which Land Rover describes as the “truest black” in the Defender colour palette. The body comes with a gloss black finish, while customers can also opt for an optional matte protective film for a more rugged look.
In total, around 30 exterior elements are blacked out to reinforce the theme. Highlights include:
Satin Black Powder Coat front undershield and rear scuff plates
Gloss black quad exhaust tips and tow eye cover
Blacked-out Land Rover badge and dark silver grille script
Gloss/satin black finishes on the exhaust silencer, centre box, and towbar
Buyers of the Defender Octa Black can select between 20-inch or 22-inch gloss black alloy wheels, both of which come with black centre caps and Shadow Atlas Defender script. Even the brake calipers follow the theme, finished in gloss black with contrasting Sentient Silver lettering for a premium contrast.
Inside the cabin, the Defender Octa Black pushes the blackout theme even further. The SUV features:
Ebony Semi-Aniline leather seats paired with Kvadrat textile
Unique perforation patterns and new stitching on the backrests
Carpathian Grey finishes on the seat backs and armrest hinges
Satin black cross car beam
Optional chopped carbon fibre trim for a sportier, modern touch
This premium interior not only echoes the dark theme but also elevates the luxury quotient of the rugged SUV.
Speaking on the new model, Mark Cameron, Managing Director of Defender, stated:
“There’s no denying the presence and purpose of Defender Octa: it’s the tallest and widest Defender, enabling it to tackle even more extreme terrain. The introduction of Defender Octa Black takes things up a notch. We know our clients love giving their Defenders all-black finishes, so our designers have applied this principle to every possible surface – inside and out – to create the ultimate tough luxury Defender Octa.”
Under the hood, the Defender Octa Black retains the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 engine sourced from BMW. This powerful motor produces:
626 bhp
750 Nm of peak torque
The SUV is also equipped with a 6D Dynamic suspension system, which ensures exceptional off-road capabilities and on-road comfort. A major interior highlight is the Body and Soul Seat (BASS) system for the front row, enhancing the aural experience by syncing audio with seat vibrations.
The Defender Octa Black also incorporates several of the latest Defender updates, including:
Revised headlamp cluster and signature LED graphics
New flush-mounted taillights with smoked lenses
A 13.1-inch Pivi Pro touchscreen infotainment system with upgraded user interface and faster performance
15-speaker, 700W Meridian sound system
These updates ensure the Octa Black offers not only strong performance and design but also advanced tech and in-cabin entertainment.
In addition to the blacked-out version, Land Rover has expanded the Defender Octa colour palette. The SUV is now also available in:
Sargasso Blue
Borasco Grey
Existing shades: Charente Grey and Petra Copper
Upcoming: Patagonia White Matte Wrap (launching later this year)
The new Defender Octa Black is expected to launch in India soon, catering to enthusiasts who crave a blend of performance, luxury, and a stealthy aesthetic. With its aggressive design and class-leading capability, this version is set to make a strong impact in the premium off-road segment.
