India's electric vehicle market continues to expand rapidly, driven by rising consumer interest in sustainable mobility and an increasing number of EV offerings. With the Tata Harrier EV on the horizon and the upcoming launch of the Kia Carens Clavis EV, the market is seeing fierce competition. In this evolving landscape, MG Motor’s Windsor EV has taken the spotlight as India’s top-selling electric vehicle in FY2025, outperforming several popular models in the segment.
The MG Windsor EV (also known as Windsor WV) has become the highest-selling electric car in India in FY2025, recording 19,394 units sold. Launched in September 2024, the Windsor EV has quickly gained popularity due to its strong features and aggressive pricing. It recently added a ‘Pro’ variant featuring a larger battery and extended range.
Battery: 38kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP), IP67 rated
Range: Up to 332 km (certified)
Motor: 134bhp and 220Nm

The Windsor EV also earned the Green Car of the Year title at the ICOTY awards, reinforcing its reputation as a top performer in India’s EV space.
After dominating the EV market in FY2024, the Tata Punch EV now ranks second in FY2025 with 17,966 units sold. The compact electric SUV remains a strong contender, offering two battery configurations to suit different range requirements.
25kWh (Standard Range)
35kWh (Long Range)
The vehicle supports multiple charging options, including a 3.3kW AC charger, 7.2kW AC charger, and DC fast charging. Priced from ₹9.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the Punch EV is still popular among urban EV buyers.
With 17,145 units sold, the Tata Tiago EV has emerged as the third best-selling EV in FY2025. Competing in the compact hatchback segment, it offers an affordable entry point into electric mobility without compromising on essential features.
19.2kWh (Medium Range): 60bhp, 110Nm, 223 km range
24kWh (Long Range): 74bhp, 114Nm, 293 km range
The Tiago EV received a Model Year 2025 (MY25) update earlier this year, helping it remain fresh and competitive.
Tata’s dominance in India’s EV market is evident, with the Nexon EV securing fourth place with 13,978 units sold in FY2025. It continues to attract buyers looking for a mid-size electric SUV.
30kWh: 128bhp, 215Nm, 275 km range
45kWh: 142bhp, 215Nm, up to 489 km range (MIDC combined)
Starting at ₹12.49 lakh (ex-showroom), the Nexon EV balances performance, range, and price effectively for Indian buyers.
The MG Comet EV, a compact and affordable city runabout, sold 10,149 units in FY2025, placing it fifth among India’s best-selling EVs.
Battery: 17.3kWh
Motor: 41bhp, 110Nm
Range: Up to 230 km (ARAI-certified)
Top Speed: 100 km/h
With its compact size and urban-friendly dynamics, the Comet EV has carved out a niche among city commuters.
FY2025 marks a turning point in India’s electric vehicle market, with the MG Windsor EV dethroning Tata’s Punch EV as the country’s most popular electric car. While MG leads the charge, Tata Motors dominates with three of its models in the top five.
As the EV race heats up with new entrants like the Kia EV line-up and Mahindra’s Born Electric range, consumers will have even more choices, further pushing India’s shift toward sustainable mobility.
