German automaker Mercedes-Benz has officially revealed the facelifted version of its flagship electric sedan, the Mercedes-Benz EQS. The updated model brings significant enhancements in range, battery efficiency, and onboard technology, along with subtle design refinements aimed at strengthening its position in the premium EV segment.
One of the biggest highlights of the EQS facelift is the introduction of a new 800V electrical architecture. This advanced system enables faster charging, improved energy efficiency, and better overall performance.
The updated EQS lineup includes multiple variants, each offering impressive range figures. The EQS 450+ now delivers a claimed WLTP range of up to 926km, making it one of the longest-range electric sedans currently available. This represents an increase of around 13 percent compared to the previous model.
Other variants also offer strong performance in terms of range. The EQS 400 provides up to 817km, while the EQS 500 4MATIC and EQS 580 4MATIC deliver up to 876km. These figures highlight Mercedes-Benz’s focus on addressing range anxiety, a key concern among electric vehicle buyers.
Battery capacity has also been enhanced, with options going up to 122kWh. The EQS 400 is equipped with a slightly smaller 112kWh battery pack. Power outputs across the lineup range from 367 horsepower to 585 horsepower, ensuring a balance between performance and efficiency.
The EQS facelift supports DC fast charging at speeds of up to 350kW. Under optimal conditions, this allows the vehicle to gain up to 320km of range in just 10 minutes, making long-distance travel more convenient.
Another notable addition is bidirectional charging capability. This feature enables the vehicle to supply power back to homes or the grid, depending on regional infrastructure. It represents a step forward in integrating electric vehicles into broader energy ecosystems.
The drivetrain also introduces a two-speed transmission on the rear axle. The shorter first gear improves acceleration, while the longer second gear enhances efficiency at higher speeds. Additionally, regenerative braking has been increased to 385kW, allowing the car to recover more energy during deceleration and reduce reliance on traditional braking systems.
Mercedes-Benz has further refined the EQS’s air suspension system. The updated setup uses cloud-based data to adjust damping levels in real time, based on road conditions detected by other vehicles.
This intelligent system enhances ride comfort and stability, ensuring a smoother driving experience across varying terrains. It also reflects the growing role of connected technologies in modern automotive engineering.
While the EQS retains its signature coupe-like silhouette, the facelift introduces several design changes that enhance its visual appeal. The front end features a redesigned grille with a backlit star pattern, along with an illuminated Mercedes-Benz emblem.
The “Digital Light” headlamps have been upgraded to project high beams up to 600 metres, improving visibility and safety. The daytime running lights now incorporate star-shaped elements, aligning with the design language seen in models like the Mercedes-Benz S-Class and Mercedes-Benz GLC.
The front bumper has been revised with larger air intakes and chrome accents, giving the car a more premium and dynamic look. At the rear, updated light bars and a redesigned bumper with diffuser elements add to the overall refinement.
Despite these changes, the EQS continues to prioritise aerodynamic efficiency, with a drag coefficient as low as 0.20—one of the best in the industry.
Inside the cabin, the EQS facelift continues to offer a futuristic and tech-focused environment. The centerpiece remains the MBUX Hyperscreen, which integrates three displays under a single curved glass panel.
The system now runs on Mercedes’ new MB.OS software, supporting over-the-air updates for continuous improvements. A new AI-powered MBUX Virtual Assistant enhances user interaction, offering more intuitive voice commands and personalised responses.
The navigation system has also been upgraded to factor in energy consumption and charging requirements, helping drivers plan efficient routes for long journeys.
Mercedes-Benz is set to introduce a yoke-style steering wheel paired with steer-by-wire technology, which will be rolled out a few months after the initial launch. This marks a significant innovation, as it will be the first time such technology is offered in a production car by a German manufacturer.
Driver assistance systems have also been enhanced. Features such as lane-keeping assist and evasive steering support now operate with greater precision, thanks to improved sensor integration.
Parking assistance has been upgraded as well, offering faster operation and new capabilities like diagonal parking. These improvements make the EQS easier to maneuver in urban environments.
The EQS facelift continues to prioritise passenger comfort, especially for rear-seat occupants. The car features dual 13.1-inch screens for entertainment and vehicle controls, providing a high-end experience for passengers.
Additional features include a HEPA air filtration system for improved cabin air quality and heated seatbelts for enhanced comfort in colder climates. These elements reinforce the EQS’s position as a luxury vehicle that combines technology with comfort.
The updated EQS is expected to go on sale in Europe and the United States by the second half of 2026. While there is no official confirmation regarding its launch in India, it is anticipated to arrive in the Indian market sometime in 2027.
